Cannon-ball Flowers

The cannon-ball tree flowers through out the year. I love the beautiful colours. My drawing is based on the photo from FRIM's website. If you wish to see the real flowers, come to FRIM! Forest Research Institute Malaysia (FRIM) is now promoting 'Colours of FRIM'.

This time, my drawing doesn't come out with a good result. I concentrated too much on the flowers to highlight the beauty. But the background... ohhh... how come the color is BLACK? It's supposed to be green (leaves) and dark brown (trunk). I wish I can 'undo' my background painting.. *sigh*

Watercolor Painting

I feel relief now. This is my watercolor painting. I don't know what else to say. I'm happy with my work. I almost gave up but I kept saying to myself, "Don't stress, this is fun! Enjoy it".

Let's go fishing!

Do you have any plan for this weekend? Let's go fishing! Wait, I don't mean river fishing... Let's create a fishing activity for your kids, just inside your house. I have a lot of Anmum Essential packaging boxes at home and don't simply throw them into the dustbin. I will use the boxes as recycle materials for fun activities with my kids. Unfold the box and you can see that the paper is quite thick. So, transform the paper to a fish. Your kids will just love it!

Have a nice weekend!

Haikal and Lorry

That night, I was sitting next to Haikal while watching news in Buletin Utama. Haikal hold his blue colorpencil and started drawing straight lines and three tyres which perfectly formed a shape of lorry. He was not done yet when I shouted happily to my husband and brother. "Guys, come and have a look! Haikal draws a lorry!" Both of them rushed excitedly to see the drawing. Haikal was surrounded by us and still holding the pencil. Realizing that he was being watched by three pairs of eyes, he started to draw clumsily. Ohhh...

Well, next time we decide not to overshow our interests while he's drawing. We will pretend like nothing happens although we are very proud of his talent. We will let him develope his creativity and praise him after he's done with his drawing.

Ketumpang Air (Peperomia pellucida)

I went to Popular this afternoon, looking for watercolor. I kept thinking on how to color my Arowana with watercolor. I really didn't want to spoil my Arowana, it's not easy to draw it and took times to finish the details. Suddenly I saw an interesting object on the shelf...it was Faber-Castell WaterColour Pencils! Hmmm...I like! So I bought a Buncho Water Color and the watercolour Pencils.

Although I think using the watercolor pencils would solve my problem, but I still love my Arowana. I know that I'm not good in watercolor painting, so the risk is high. So instead of doing the coloring experiment on Arowana, I pull out a Ketumpang Air plant from the drain at my office and draw it... then color it using the watercolour pencils...and water. Mission completed!

Arowana

My new challenge is to draw Arowana fish. The layered scales are the beauty of Arowana and also the hardest part to do in my drawing. I used to erase my sketch many times. And I think this is the best that I can do.. at least for now :-)

Ladybird

The name "ladybird" originated in Britain where the insects became known as "Our Lady's bird" or the "Lady beetle". That's written in the Wikipedia. Without this information, I still have no objection about the name. The shiny red color and the black polka dots make the beetle so beautiful. Let us do it this way.

The red and black beetle is beautiful.
Lady is beautiful.
So the beetle is a lady.

I guess, that's why it's called "Ladybird".. Ohhh..whatever!

New Drawing Book

Haikal came to me with his sad face and claimed that his drawing book got no more blank page. I asked him, "Are you sure? " He nodded and passed the book. I opened every single sheet and amazed that he was right. Haikal drew on every page and didn't leave even one empty page.
"Well, you should ask your father to buy a new one" I smiled at him.
"Ok". Then his father promised to give him a new drawing book.

Nemo Meets New Friend

Nemo : So, you're the star of the sea.
Starfish : Ermmm... Yess, it's me.
Nemo : Why don't you shine?
Starfish : I fell from the sky into the sea and the water caused short circuit in me..
Nemo : Ooohhh...

Let's Fly Together

I forgot to ask Haikal what's this drawing about. Fish? Aeroplane? Lorry? Errmm... I think one of them looks like a bird. Suddenly I remember an episode from Upin and Ipin series where the twins were playing kites with their friends. Haikal loves the part when a bird hit one of the kites. Both kite and bird fell on the ground. Upin and the gang rescued the injured bird and at last the bird was able to fly again. Nice story!

Haikal and Fish

Haikal drew a fish. Then he drew another fish...smaller one. He told me that the bigger fish was the mama (mother). How sweet!!! He put me into his imagination and that's how he expressed his love to me... I learnt a new thing. To create a meaningful drawing, always draw right from your heart.

Haikal and Dragonfly

Everyday I will try to allocate my time for drawing activity with my kids. They will request me to draw their favourite objects especially those related to heavy transportations like crane, tractor and lorry. The drawing should not be perfect. Two boxes with two circles will do to make them shout happily "It's a lorry!'. Easy right hihihi.. Believe me, although this kind of activity needs your patience, love and time, it's a fruitful one! Now my kid can draw a lorry by himself... I wish to upload his drawings in my next post. This is one of them...my almost-4-years-old Haikal drew a dragonfly. I'm very proud of him :-)

Encourage kid's imagination, creativity and confidence, that's what I'm doing. At the same time, I try to develop my creativity as well. My imagination should be better than Haikal. So I modified his sketch to make it a bit closer to real. So, here is Haikal's dragonfly with his mother's touch. Happy family!

Draw a lion

Yesterday I opened Emila's blog every half an hour, hoping new drawing tutorial will appear. Well, I could see that she had a very pack schedule this week. There was an entry about she attending a lion dance at Ampang and his son's challenge to lion drawing. As usual, she did it perfectly...that's Emila! She took around 30 minutes only to finish the details. I scrolled over her page to see the photo of lion taken during the event and hold my pencil tightly. I said to myself, I should challenge myself to draw a lion too.. I can do it! Without looking to her sketch, I drew the lion and tried to be more particular about the little things in the photo. Here's the result. I laughed to my self as the lion was quite thin...after it's hardwork dancing on poles :)

Keychains...lots of keychains!

Previously I didn't give too much attention to my keychains. Usually I attached them to my keys or handbag, and sometimes I simply put them anywhere which I couldn't trace them back then. Things changed when I started working in 2004 where a year after that I had to start my official travelling to Bogor, Indonesia and many other countries around Asia Pacific region. Wherever I went, I would looking for keychains as souveniers especially those with country names printed on them. If there wasn't any, I would buy fridge magnet as a replace.

This is a keychain from Taipei, Taiwan which I visited early 2006. What's so special about this keychain? Well, I would say that I had a great and wonderful time in this beautiful island. I believe that everyone of us is the ambassador for our country and those friendly peoples that I met in Taiwan played their roles very well and they were so amazing! They gave me a good impression of Taiwan and their hospitality was so much appreciated.

My Taiwanese friends were so nice to accompany me spending a whole day visiting some interesting places using public transports. And of course I didn't miss a chance to be at the tallest skycraper in Taipei, 101 Tower, which is one of the tallest buiding in the world.

This cap-shaped keychain was bought at Bukit Merah, Perak, Malaysia, also in 2006. My cousins organized a family gathering and I was there to meet my relatives who had hardly met for years. Actually this keychain was not mine... It's a gift from me to my 'special friend'. My keychain was a turtle-shaped, green in colour and cute. Both keychains came with water inside and there was also a floating little fish.

During my next trip, I learnt that liquid was not allowed in flight. There was bag checking per passenger and my turtle keychain was taken away from my handcarried bag. The woman officer said that it was a lovely keychain, but any liquor or liquid would not be allowed onboard the flight. That was sad.

In 2007, I married with my 'special friend'. It is very clear that he is mine, and his keychain is also mine :)

Postcard to Emila Yusof

Finally I managed to create a postcard specially designed for Emila Yusof. My idea is about a loving family. A family of five having a sweet moment together in a beautiful garden, staring at the blue sky and spotting a flock of bird flying in stunning formation. Wahh.. I should learn more on how to put emotions and feelings in my drawing. So that peoples can feel the love that I want to share.

I'm going to drop the postcard in the postbox on my way back home. Hope she would receive it safely. It's fun to have this kind of activity. I even wonder, can I have more new friends to exchange art postcards too?
